Commuters in Wallaceburg are in for more traffic headaches this week with the closure of one of the town’s main bridges.
Chatham-Kent’s engineering department will be closing the Murray Street Bridge daily between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. beginning Tuesday. The closures will run through Friday.
The span over the Sydenham River will reopen each night from 4 p.m. until 8 a.m.
During the closures, the municipality will conduct final testing and commissioning of the bridge’s new sensors.
The upgrades to the bridge are part of a $1.9 million rehabilitation project, which also included upgrades to the steel bridge deck, various concrete repairs, and improvements to the lift mechanisms/infrastructure. The majority of the work was completed between March 8 and April 30. The project is expected to be completed in its entirety before the end of the year.
