More bad news for commuters in Wallaceburg.

Chatham-Kent’s engineering department has announced that the Murray Street Bridge will close to vehicle and pedestrian traffic between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily from November 14-17.

The closure will allow for final testing and commissioning of the bridge’s new sensors.

Larger boats will be unable to pass under the bridge if they require the lift span to open. Smaller boats that do not require the bridge to be opened will be accommodated.

The upgrades to the bridge are part of a $1.9 million rehabilitation project, which also included upgrades to the steel bridge deck, various concrete repairs, and improvements to the lift mechanisms/infrastructure. The majority of the work was completed between March 8 and April 30. The project is expected to be completed in its entirety before the end of the year.
