Following some delays to the project late last year, the Murray Street Bridge in Wallaceburg is set to close for rehabilitation next week.

The span over the Sydenham River will be closed to vehicular traffic in both directions beginning on March 8. One sidewalk will remain open for pedestrians.

Detours will be in place to direct traffic around the construction.

As well, the bridge will not be operable to allow larger boats to pass. Smaller boats that do not require the bridge to open will be accommodated, the municipality said.

The span is scheduled to reopen to vehicular traffic on May 1, with it being operational for boat traffic by May 15.

The bridge was initially expected to close for rehabilitation on November 7, 2022, however, material shortages and the unavailability of a specialized sub-contractor delayed the project.

Landform Civil Infrastructures Ltd. has been secured as the contractor for the $1.9 million bridge rehabilitation project.
