Murray Street Bridge, Wallaceburg.

A reminder to drivers in Wallaceburg that the Murray Street Bridge will be closed for two months beginning today.

The span over the Sydenham River will undergo a $1.9 million rehabilitation and be closed to vehicular traffic in both directions. One sidewalk will remain open for pedestrians.

Municipal officials say the bridge will not be operable to allow larger boats to pass. Smaller boats that do not require the bridge to open will be accommodated.

The bridge is scheduled to reopen to vehicle traffic on May 1 and boat traffic May 15.

In the meantime, detours will be in place to direct traffic around the construction.

The bridge was initially expected to close for rehabilitation on November 7, 2022, however, material shortages and the unavailability of a specialized sub-contractor delayed the project.
