More construction work has been scheduled for the Murray Street Bridge in Wallaceburg, but it will have little to no impact on local commuters.
Chatham-Kent’s engineering department said construction crews will be upgrading the bridge’s electrical components and sensors between October 16 and November 20.
The bridge will remain open to vehicles and pedestrians during this period, however, there will be some short-term delays when the bridge is opened as part of testing and commissioning procedures.
Larger boats will be unable to pass under the bridge if they require the lift span to open. Smaller boats that do not require the bridge to be opened will be accommodated.
The upgrades to the bridge are part of a $1.9 million rehabilitation project, which also included upgrades to the steel bridge deck, various concrete repairs, and improvements to the lift mechanisms/infrastructure. The majority of the work was completed between March 8 and April 30. The project is expected to be completed in its entirety before the end of the year.
