A new exhibition coming to the Chatham-Kent Museum will showcase one of the most troubling times in Canada’s history.

The exhibition called “A Call for Justice: Fighting for Japanese Redress” will honour the anniversary of the signing of the Redress Agreement with the Government of Canada in 1988.

The agreement followed the emotional struggle to achieve an apology and acknowledgement from the Canadian government for the unjust treatment of Japanese Canadians during the Second World War. Thousands of Japanese Canadians were forced from their homes beginning in 1942 to be placed in internment camps. Many were also pressured into accepting mass deportation after the war.

The exhibition runs from January 28 to April 30, 2023 at the Chatham-Kent Museum and will include historic photographs, artifacts, poetry, personal statements, art, and video.

An opening reception will also be held on February 10 in conjunction with Thames Art Gallery’s ARTcrawl.

Admission is by donation.
