A local fundraiser is boasting its most successful event yet in support of child and youth mental health in Chatham-Kent.

The Music for the Mind fundraiser held a charity concert at The Kent on February 4, raising more than $15,000 — the fundraiser’s largest single-event total since its inception.

Musical performers at the concert included Walkin’ 47, Dirt Country, Big Shiny Toons, Just Us Acoustic Trio Band, and DJ Shawn L.

Organizer Elisha Banks said it was a sold-out show.

“328 people showed up to show their support and stand by this cause the night of the event and it blew my mind,” said Banks.

The proceeds raised through admissions to the concert and its linked fundraisers will be directed to child and adult counselling services at Family Service Kent, as well as the KIDS Team Program for psychological assessments for children and youth.

Since June 2022, Music For the Mind fundraisers have raised more than $40,000 for Family Service Kent.

“Once again, this community has continued to step up and get behind this cause and show their support for Music for the Mind and also for supporting people who struggle with mental health in our community,” said Banks.

Coming up in June, Music for the Mind will continue its fundraising efforts with another event. The Swing into Summer outdoor concert has been scheduled for June 24 at Sons of Kent in Chatham. Tickets for the event will go on sale on May 1.
