A group of high school students have been hard at work, bringing a classic story to life on the stage.

UCC is putting on a production of Matilda, the popular musical based on Roald Dahl’s 1988 children’s book.

The story centres on Matilda Wormwood, played by Olivia Gregory, a precocious child with uncaring parents who send her off to a school run by a tyrannical headmistress.

“Matilda is a fun person,” Gregory says.  “She has humour, she’s smart, she’s amazing and I just love being her.  It’s truly an amazing experience!”

The production, which is the first for UCC coming out of the pandemic, includes 25 cast members, a 12-piece student orchestra, and 25-member crew.

Performances are scheduled from May 1 to 4, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the UCC theatre.  For ticket information, visit the UCC box office at https://ucctheatre.sccdsb.net/ticket-info
