Fans of fast cars and faster planes will be flocking to Chatham-Kent to take part in a fundraiser in support of local health care.
The Mustang and Mustangs event is bringing together multiple Second World War-era warbirds and several generations of the Ford Mustang for one show on Saturday at the Chatham-Kent Municipal Airport.
Organizer Jeanette Steen said it was her family’s history with both Mustangs that inspired her to pitch the event to the foundation board.
“My family grew up around the muscle car. My dad owned a ’65 [Mustang] and he eventually bought an ’88 Fox Body which I acquired later in life,” she said. “We just have a love for Mustangs and my dad was a recreational pilot and his dream was always to fly in a P-51 Mustang… and he surpassed that; he now owns one.”
Gates for Mustang owners will open at 9 a.m. with a minimum $20 donation for the chance at front-row parking and a photo opportunity with a 1944 P-51 Mustang. Spectator gates will then open at 11 a.m. with a $5 minimum donation. Kids 12 and under are free.
The event will also include food vendors, door prizes, and a raffle for a chance to win a ride in two warbirds.
All proceeds from the cash-only event will be donated to the Blenheim Medical Health Foundation for a new community medical facility.
