The cost to supply bottled water to local residents after a fire at the Wheatley Water Treatment Plant prompted a boil water advisory has been totalled at close to $200,000.
A boil water advisory was issued following a fire that caused significant damage to the Wheatley Water Treatment Plant on September 13. The advisory remained in effect for three weeks before being lifted in early October.
As a result, Chatham-Kent Council passed a notice of motion in late September to supply bottled water to residents in Tilbury and Wheatley under the boil water advisory.
According to the Public Utilities Commission, a total of 18,574 cases of bottled water were distributed between September 28 and October 5.
The cost of the bottled water amounted to $139,535.67, with the labour needed to supply the water costing $55,022.24.
During a PUC meeting on Wednesday, the commission approved funding the total cost of $194,557.91 through CK PUC 2023 water reserve.
