Local police have wrapped up their seasonal campaign aimed at keeping dangerous drivers off Chatham-Kent roads.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service ran its Festive Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program from October 1, 2023 to January 1, 2024, conducting RIDE checkpoints throughout the municipality.

A total of 10 checkpoints were set up during the campaign, with 2,931 vehicles checked and 39 roadside sobriety tests administered.

Over the three months, officers arrested one person for driving while impaired. Seven Highway Traffic Act charges were also laid, along with one Criminal Code charge.

The Festive RIDE campaign is an annual police enforcement and education initiative with the purpose of taking impaired drivers off Ontario roads during the holiday season.
