Chatham-Kent is introducing a new 311 service, beginning Wednesday, October 7th.

Municipal officials say the implementation date was specifically chosen, as it also signifies National Customer Service Week. Officials believe this is the perfect time to appropriately celebrate this “significant service enhancement in Chatham-Kent.”

The Customer Service Division has been preparing for the 311 customer service telephone number since May of 2019, following Council approval.

311 is a simple, three-digit phone number that you can use to access information about the Municipality of Chatham-Kent services or programs, or to make a request for service.

Residents, visitors and businesses no longer have to call 519-360-1998 for municipal information or services (while in the jurisdiction of Chatham-Kent). However the 519-360-1998 number will continue to be operational if you prefer to use that number.

“The Municipality continues to focus on expanding customer service options via online, email, web chat, telephone services and social media platforms,” reads the release from the municipality.

C-K’s customer service team assists an average of 500 customers each day by means of telephone calls.  The new 311 telephone number is symbolic of our service improvements, simplifying customer access to our customer service team.

Officials add that it is important for our residents to be aware of the purpose of N11 numbers:

  • 211 – Community and Social Services Helpline in Ontario
  • 311 – Chatham-Kent Services and Information
  • 411 – Canada’s People & Business Directory
  • 511 – Ontario Travel Information
  • 611 – Direct Access to Mobile Phone Telephone Service Provider
  • 911 – Emergencies requiring Police, Fire or Ambulance

The Municipality will be implementing an N11 campaign via social media for the month of October, to actively demonstrate examples of when to use the designated N11 telephone numbers. Residents will also begin to notice additional decals indicating “Call 311” on municipal vehicles and community signage.  We are very proud to become a “311 Community” in Canada.
