Chatham-Kent residents will be seeing local phone calls with a new area code beginning next month.
To accommodate the rapid increase in the number of mobile devices used across Canada, all phone services will begin introducing the 382 area code on June 17 for the region that includes Chatham-Kent.
The region is currently served by the 226, 519 and 548 area codes.
Those who already have a phone number will see no change to their numbers or how they make calls. Anyone getting a new phone number may be assigned the new area code at that time.
