Local residents can expect to see new and improved police vehicles patrolling the streets of Chatham-Kent in 2025.
The Chatham-Kent Police Services Board will be presented with a report on Wednesday, detailing enhancements and a new design for front-line police cruisers, intended to increase visibility, assist in crime prevention, and improve safety.
A new design with a blue-on-white and white-on-blue combination was chosen through consultation with community members and internal and external surveys.
The updated police vehicles will also be equipped with new enhanced emergency lighting, rugged and louder sirens, and a redesigned interior that offers more space, comfort and flexibility for officers.
The newly designed police cruisers will be implemented through natural attrition and will replace existing cruisers as they reach the end of their service life. The current police cruiser design is more than 10 years old.
The new vehicles will begin to hit the streets sometime next year.
