A new Director of Education has been named for the local English Catholic school board.
Current St. Clair Catholic District School Board Director Scott Johnson announced his retirement last September, and following a months-long search, the Board of Trustees has approved the promotion of Lisa Demers.
Demers has served as Superintendent of Education for the past eight years. She has worked in the education field for 30 years, including classroom teacher, principal, and system principal.
As Superintendent, Lisa led key portfolios, including Special Education, Mental Health & Well-being, Indigenous Education, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and Safe Schools. Board officials say she played a pivotal role in developing system-wide strategies such as the Board Action Plan for Indigenous Education, the Page 2 of 2 Mental Health and Addictions Strategy, and the Student Achievement Plan.
In addition to her work with the St. Clair Catholic board, Lisa has shared her expertise at the provincial level through committees such as the Ontario Special Needs Strategy Committee and the Regional Special Education and Curriculum Council. She has also served as a mentor and instructor in Catholic education leadership formation programs.
“Lisa is a dedicated leader who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to student success and the values of Catholic education throughout her career,” said Board Chair John Van Heck in a news release. “Her leadership has had a profound impact across our board, and we are excited to see how she will continue to build on our momentum and further strengthen our schools and communities.”
“I am truly honoured to be entrusted with the role of Director of Education for St. Clair Catholic,” added Demers. “The work we’ve done to date has created a solid foundation, and I look forward to collaborating with our exceptional team to continue fostering an environment where every student is supported and celebrated.”
Demers officially takes over as Director of Education on April 1.
