A new face has joined the staff at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

Dr. Matt Renaud is doing a one-year residency as part of Western University’s Canadian College of Family Physicians – Emergency Medicine Program.

Originally from Harrow, Dr. Renaud earned his Bachelor of Medical Sciences from Western University in 2014. Following that, he received his Doctor of Medicine in 2018 and completed his Family Medicine Residency in 2020 both at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, Western University. His interests include hiking, travel, guitar and the Detroit Lions.

“I’m looking forward to getting to know and giving back to the great people of Chatham-Kent,” Renaud says. “I’m also excited to work alongside, and learn from, the great team at CKHA and seeing everything the community has to offer.”

CKHA CEO Lori Marshall says the program, through the Schulich School of Medicine, provides a unique opportunity for both the hospital and the resident.

“Emergency medicine in a rural setting is very unique in that you need to become a bit of a jack of all trades,” Marshall says. “We hope that when residents come to us, they’ll also be attracted to us in the future for a potential to continue with their practice and their career.”

Dr. Shawn Segeren championed bringing CCFP-EM program the CKHA. He completed his residency at the Health Alliance in 2018, and completed the additional year of training in the CCFP-EM program the following year.
