The province has announced more than three-million dollars to support victims of crime, including here in Chatham-Kent.
$100,000 is being delivered to the Chatham-Kent Police Service through Ontario’s Victim Support Grant program.
The money will allow local authorities to equip all front-line officers with state-of-the-art translation services in both voice and video formats, to better engage with victims and provide immediate assistance, regardless of any language barriers.
“This funding will help provide stronger, more compassionate support to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other serious crimes in our community,” said Chatham-Kent-Leamington MPP Trevor Jones in a news release. “It’s an important step toward making Chatham-Kent safer and more supportive for everyone in providing immediate assistance, regardless of language barriers.”
The province’s Victim Support Grant supports victims and survivors of intimate partner violence and/or domestic violence, hate crime, gender-based violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, elder abuse and other crimes.
