Chatham-Kent is getting a portion of provincial funding to help keep public transit riders safe.

The money, a total of $15-million province-wide, is aimed at covering additional costs associated with cleaning and sanitization of transit systems because of COVID-19.

Chatham-Kent’s share comes to a hair under $40,000 — $39,873 to be exact. Leamington, meantime, will be getting $18,552.

The transit cleaning funding is part of recently-released safety guidelines for the gradual reopening of Ontario’s economy.

“As our province continues to reopen, it is important we have the proper resources to do so safely,” says MPP Rick Nicholls. “With this investment, our communities will be safer places to live, work, and play as we get back to a new normal.”
