First Nations communities can now apply for government funding to support survivors of Ontario’s residential school system.
The provincial government says the Indian Residential School Community Engagement Fund (IRSCEF) supports community-led healing, commemoration, and initiatives that honour missing children, Survivors, families and communities, with up to $250,000 available to eligible Indigenous communities and organizations.
Among other initiatives, the fund can be used for ceremonies, monuments, healing gardens, interpretive displays and commemorative plaques that foster opportunities for reflection, remembrance and storytelling. IRSCEF funding also supports community engagement, mental health and addictions help, staffing, and research activities.
Funding applications are open until September 16.
