Today marks the official start of Pride Week in Chatham-Kent.

A number of events are scheduled, celebrating diversity, inclusion, and support for the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

CK Pride is partnering with PFLAG Canada to create a local chapter, supporting youth 12 and under and their families.

Co-founder Jess Kroez says the goal is to provide fun, community-building activities for kids and a casual support space for their caregivers.

“Nobody’s trying to write anything write anything in stone with kids this age, but we do want to create space for them to explore who they are in a supportive environment,” Kroez explains.

A meet and greet is being held on Wednesday in the green space next to Bill’s Place at the corner of Centre Street and Harvey in downtown Chatham. The event runs from 4-6pm, and features yard games, freezies, water games, face paint, and more.

Other CK Pride Week events include a flag raising at the Civic Centre at noon on Monday, community barbecue at Fuel 4 You on William Street Wednesday, and the Pride Parade and PrideFest on Saturday.
