New Movement Studio Aims to Improve Physical Literacy

There’s a new movement studio in downtown Chatham.

Body Language co-owner Simon Swanek says he and his partner Mark Reinhart opened the studio nearly one month ago, and he says their downtown Chatham location was chosen for a specific reason.

“We’re hoping to be part of Chatham’s renaissance to help revitalize the downtown and bring some fun movement to the core and to the people of Chatham-Kent,” says Swanek.

Swanek says another goal is improving residents’ attitudes toward movement.

“We really want to help Chatham to improve on its physical literacy, hence the name Body Language. We’re hoping that people can come and use our space as a place to learn about their movement practice and their bodies, but also their minds and how all those things can work together,” Swanek explains.

Swanek says their classes are rooted in yoga and Pilates, and are open to people of all ages and fitness levels.

“We have had students in our classes already as young as twelve and thirteen years old. We both have a lot of experience working with youth so if you have kids who want to get involved, we’re looking at starting a youth program this fall,” says Swanek.

Since Body Language held its opening celebrations over the Canada Day long weekend, Swanek says business has been booming.

More information about Body Language and a full schedule of classes can be found on their website.
