A newly replaced natural gas pipeline that stretches from Chatham-Kent to Tecumseh is now in service.

Enbridge Gas announced on Tuesday that the 64-km long, six-inch diameter replacement pipeline is now serving portions of Tecumseh, Lakeshore, Chatham-Kent, Essex, Leamington, Kingsville and Windsor.

Enbridge said the project to replace the old pipeline began in May 2020, in an effort to protect the structural integrity of natural gas delivery.  The newly constructed pipeline will now be able to support future growth in residential and commercial areas, the gas company said.

“With what promises to be a cold upcoming winter season, it is as important as ever that we work to ensure our infrastructure and assets are resilient and dependable for when our customers and their communities need them most,” said Brian Chauvin, manager of southwest region operations at Enbridge Gas.

The pipeline begins near Enbridge Gas’ Sandwich Compressor Station in Tecumseh and follows County Road 46 and Lakeshore Road 309 in the town of Lakeshore. It then continues by following Goodreau Line to the existing Enbridge Gas Port Alma Gate Station in Chatham-Kent.

Final clean-up activities around the pipeline will occur in early 2022.
