New Canadian regulations could mean new nuclear precautions for some Chatham-Kent residents.
According to a map from the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit, a sliver of the municipality is within 80km of the Enrico Fermi2 Nuclear Plant.
That would put those residents in the “secondary zone” of a nuclear disaster, along with residents of LaSalle, Amherstburg, Tecumseh and Essex.
New rules mean that everybody that lives within 80km of a plant are being offered potassium iodine pills that would help protect the thyroid from absorbing radioactivity.
No details on how or when the pills could become available.
