A piece of Thamesville history will be honoured this coming weekend.
Officials with the Chatham-Kent Heritage Network will be unveiling a plaque to mark the site of the Ferguson Opera House near the intersection of Victoria Road and Longwoods Road.
The two storey building included stores and offices downstairs and a 400 seat theatre upstairs. The colourful plaque will include photos and text, telling the story of the opera house and the family that made it possible.
The plaque unveiling will take place Sunday, April 28th at 1:30, followed by a reception at the Thamesville Town Hall Museum.
It’s the second historic marker to be placed by the Heritage Network, following the unveiling of one honouring the Chatham Coloured All Stars at Stirling Park in Chatham in November.
Other historic plaques are being placed in Rondeau, Erieau, Jeannette’s Creek, Mitchell’s Bay, and Wallaceburg this spring.
Funding for the most recent project has been provided by the Thamesville Sertoma Club and local municipal councillors with support from the Hydro One Community Grant Program, earmarked for recreation, arts, and culture projects.
