New Queens Line Roundabout Sees First Collision

Just over one week after opening to traffic, a collision has been reported at the new Queens Line roundabout east of Tilbury.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers were called to the intersection of Queen’s Line and Merlin Road on Wednesday at around 1:40 p.m., after a vehicle left the road and struck a light pole.

The driver, a 75-year-old man from Chatham, was not injured in the crash. No charges have been laid.

The intersection was briefly closed to allow for emergency services to clear the area.

The new roundabout was opened on September 26, following months of construction. Upgrading the intersection to a roundabout was recommended to the municipality following safety studies that showed roundabouts reduce both the frequency and severity of collisions.
