New Shelter One Year Away

Chatham-Kent’s New Animal Shelter could be built by this time next year.

The Donna L’Ecuyer Foundation recently donated $25,062.62 to the Friends of the New Animal Shelter campaign.

Project Coordinator Lynn McGeachy Schultz says shovels should be in the ground early next year.

“It just depends on the conditions of the soil, if we have a really tough winter it will be a little later in the spring” says McGeachy Schultz. “We’re committed to having the building ready to roll, done and finished and furnished, by the fall of 2018.”

The new shelter will be build adjacent to the current building on Park Avenue East.

The municipality has hired an architect to design the building, and McGeachy-Schultz has been hired on for another year to ensure the committee’s fundraising goals are met.
