Residents and visitors to Thamesville will soon receive a more colourful welcome.

With funding through the Hydro One Community Benefit Contribution grant as well as assistance from Thamesville Improvement Association and Thamesville Sertoma Club, East Kent Councillor Steve Pinsonneault is helping to update the community’s entrance signs.

The Hydro One program provides a certain amount of funding to each municipal councillor to use in their ward for capital assets supporting recreation or arts and culture.

In a news release, municipal officials say the new signs will be designed by local artists and created with input from the public, and will feature artistic elements that reflect the unique character of Thamesville, and help promote community engagement.

“As a community, it’s important we take pride in our identity and make our mark in the world,” Pinsonneault said. “Our entrance signs serve as a visual representation of our community and an opportunity to showcase our unique character. By updating these signs with locally-inspired art, we not only create a more visually appealing environment but also foster a sense of pride and belonging among our residents.”

Details such as when community engagement on the project would begin or which local artists would be involved in the design have not yet been released.
