Local residents can expect to see four newly named snowplows clearing the streets of Chatham-Kent next winter.
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has announced the winners of the fourth annual snowplow contest, with names submitted by and then voted on by the public through the Let’s Talk Chatham-Kent website. Billie Ice-ish received 29% of the vote this year, Clearopathra garnered 18%, and Plowabunga earned 15% of all votes cast.
In all, 184 votes were submitted for the top 10 names.
A fourth plow will also be hitting the road this year, dedicated to a Chatham-Kent resident who has shown commitment and service to the community. Fly Robyn Fly is named in honour of CKXS News Director and XS Mornings co-host Robyn Brady, a tribute to her 25 years of providing local news coverage and traffic updates on-air. The 1975 disco song “Fly, Robin, Fly” by Silver Convention has been the intro music for Robyn’s traffic reports on morning shows in Chatham and Wallaceburg.
The Chatham-Kent snowplow naming contest has garnered national attention over the last few years, including a mention on the national Hockey Night in Canada broadcast.
No tax dollars are spent on naming the snowplows, with decals provided through a sponsorship with Winmar.
