2017 is bringing Ontario residents higher natural gas bills, but one area MPP is putting up a fight. power-plant

Cap and Trade – a tax to help offset the effects of burning the gas on the environment – comes into effect January first.

MPP Rick Nicholls says he doesn’t know exactly by how much bills will increase.

“They won’t tell us exactly how much it’s going to cost,” Nicholls says. “I believe that this government lobbied the Ontario Energy Board to have the OEB mandate that any carbon tax that will be put on natural gas bills has to be buried in the delivery charges.”

Nicholls has launched an online petition in hopes that the Liberals will come clean about the real cost of their Cap and Trade plan.

You can find the petition on Nicholls’ website.

In the meantime, Union Gas estimates it may cost residents about $80 extra per year.
