Nicholls Raising Awareness About Human Trafficking

A special town hall meeting is being held next month to raise awareness about the danger of human trafficking in our area.

MPP Rick Nicholls is co-hosting the event, and says the average age of trafficking victims is 14.

“It’s important that people know just exactly with social media, who is trying to befriend or lure your daughter or son over the internet. You’ve got Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, SnapChat – all of that. As concerned parents, concerned citizens, we need to know what our children are up to these days,” says Nicholls.

The event is open to teachers, parents, and students, and will cover issues like how to recognize the signs of trafficking, where to turn for help, and warnings about social media usage.

“The 401 is a huge corridor for human trafficking. And it’s very very difficult for our police to actually monitor that corridor. Statistically, what we’re finding is that human trafficking is vastly under-counted,” Nicholls explains.

Registration is being handled through Chatham-Kent-Leamington MPP Rick Nicholls’ office.
