For the second straight year, a holiday tradition in Chatham-Kent has been postponed.
Organizers say the annual Christmas in Muskoka is being shelved because of uncertainty caused by the pandemic.
“With the ongoing uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the risks associated with large indoor gatherings we believe our only option at this point is to postpone the event again this year,” says Gerri Brown, Co-Chair of the Christmas in Muskoka Committee.
Each year, the event sees dozens of decorated Christmas trees raffled off, raising money to send students in the St Clair Catholic District School Board to the Muskoka Leadership Camp.
In nine years, approximately $800,000 has been raised for Grade 7 Catholic elementary school students and the student leadership team from Ursuline College. More than 3,500 students have been given financial support to attend the four-day outdoor learning experience.
“Christmas in Muskoka has brought our Catholic schools and the Chatham-Kent community together at one of the most important times of the year,” says Scott Johnson, Director of Education for St. Clair Catholic. “We are grateful for the support this event provides for hundreds of students to participate in an outstanding educational experience.”
Plans are in the works for next year. Christmas in Muskoka is expected to return to the Bradley Convention Centre November 15th to the 19th, 2022.
