Thames Campus Arena will not have any ice this year. Instead the arena will become a multipurpose athletic facility, hosting pickleball, ball hockey, volleyball and other sports this winter.
Chatham-Kent council made the decision at their council meeting held on Monday evening. Councillor Karen Kirkwood-Whyte said there was extensive consultation with various user groups about the change.
Council originally decided to keep the ice out of both Chatham’s Erickson Arena and the Bothwell Arena, but changed course after public backlash.
