Three new names are being added to the Kent County Agriculture Hall of Fame.
This year’s inductee class include Stephen Denys, Harry Lawson and Keith McLean. Lawson and McLean will be enshrined posthumously.
The three men who all impacted local agriculture, will be inducted on November 19 at the Hidden Hills Golf and Country Club.
Stephen Denys, who resides in the former Chatham Township, has been heavily involved in crop production protection, marketing, and seed development for over 50 years.
The late Harry Lawson died in 2022. Lawson, who was from the former Zone Township, worked tirelessly to change by-laws and regulations to benefit the agriculture community, including working towards fair settlements for gas and hydro corridors across farm land to avoid expropriation if possible.
The late Keith McLean, died in 2012. A resident of Morpeth, McLean stressed the importance of balancing agriculture land and natural cover. He emphasized using windbreaks and cover crops to reduce wind erosion.
