North Kent Well Owners See Spike in Sediments

The Brooks family has been dealing with increased sediment in their well water since turbine construction began in early August.

The local activist group Water Wells First is renewing its call for North Kent Wind to halt their operations, and to stop the proposed Otter Creek project.

According to spokesperson Kevin Jakubec, well owners in the North Kent area have seen an increase in sediment in their well water since before construction on the turbines began almost a year ago.

“The Brooks went thorough a 14,000 times increase in the number of Kettle Point black shale in the well water. We’re hopeful that now with this evidence of a contamination, that the Ministry of Environment will halt the construction of the North Kent Wind project, and stop the Otter Creek project”, says Jakubec.

Nearly a year ago, Water Wells First and hydrogeologist Bill Clarke recommended homeowners in the North Kent Wind project area to test their well water to obtain baseline data. With construction nearing completion, some homeowners are testing their well water again to see how it has changed.

The Brooks family is revealing the results of the lab tests later today.
