Chatham-Kent’s Fire and EMS Chief is responding to recent advertisements referencing emergency response times.
Bob Crawford says the ads depict an individual who is ill with the phrase “It’s not in the budget.”
“I really don’t know what to make of that, it’s interesting to note that we are heavily engaged with our service provider, Medavie, they are contracted to provide paramedics to deliver medical care,” Crawford explains. “”I’m not sure who these ads are aimed at, whether they’re aimed at Medavie or if they’re aimed at someone else.”
The Fire and EMS department began drafting a report back in January about how to make the service more efficient, it’s due to go before council in August.
Crawford says the ad campaign appears to be paid for by the Service Employees International Union.
“What I surmise is that the paramedics’ union is attempting to draw attention to their perception of the health care system, where they see the challenges, and what they think is the solution,” Crawford says.
Crawford says that while there are inefficiencies, health care is their top priority.
