A Chatham-Kent police officer is being recognized for helping to save the life of a stabbing victim.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said Constable Justin Christian responded to the stabbing on Wedgewood Avenue in Chatham shortly before 10 p.m. on June 1, 2025, and found a 27-year-old Chatham man in obvious distress, suffering from a severe injury to his arm.
The wound had caused significant arterial bleeding, making it evident to Constable Christian that the injury was life-threatening.
As the victim expressed his belief that he was going to die, the officer reassured the victim that help was on the way and applied a tourniquet to the man’s arm, which successfully controlled the bleeding until paramedics arrived to take him to the hospital.
A warrant was later issued for the suspect in the stabbing, and the 24-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested on June 10 and charged with aggravated assault.
In recognition of his life-saving actions, Constable Christian was presented with a citation from the CK Police Services Board on Wednesday.
