The Ontario government has announced an investment in seven research projects aimed at reinforcing economic growth in the agri-food sector.
The province will invest $1.28 million through Agricultural Research and Innovation Ontario’s Innovative Breeding Research Program to create new tailored plant varieties and livestock for the province’s domestic food supply and export markets.
Rob Flack, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness, said this agri-food research will help to give farmers and agribusinesses a competitive advantage.
The Innovative Breeding Research Program works to create enhanced plant varieties and animal traits, supports resilience to environmental challenges, and promotes biodiversity and plant and animal health.
Agricultural Research and Innovation Ontario was created in 1962 and operates 14 research stations across the province.
