Ontario Invests In Public Transit In CK

The Ontario government is investing almost $1 million to expand public transit in Chatham-Kent.

The province announced on Wednesday that Chatham-Kent will receive $983,991 of a $6.2 million total investment, which can be used to extend service hours, buy transit vehicles, add routes, improve accessibility or upgrade infrastructure.  The remaining funds have been allocated to Windsor, Lasalle, Leamington and Tecumseh.

“We need reliable and affordable public transit so workers and families can travel where they need to when they need to,” said Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton, in a news release. “Today’s investment will ensure more residents across London, Chatham-Kent and West-Elgin can do just that.”

The investment is part of the province’s Gas Tax program, which will see $375 million allocated to 107 municipalities this year. The amount of funding for the program is determined by how much gasoline is solid in the province during the previous year.
