Ontario May Lower Social Gathering Limits In COVID Hotspots

Ontario may lower the limits on social gatherings in current “hotspots” in an attempt to control the increase of COVID-19 cases across the province.
Premier Doug Ford made the announcement during Wednesday’s press conference as Ontario’s new case count increased to over 300 for the second time this week.
The Premier says he will be discussing those limits with members of his cabinet as well as local officials. When these potential changes come into effect is not currently being shared. More details could come as soon as Thursday.
More than 60 percent of Wednesday’s new infections once again came from the Toronto, Peel and Ottawa regions with 315 new cases in total. Premier Ford says he will be taking action in those regions specifically.
The current limits on social gatherings throughout Ontario is 50 people indoors and 100 outdoors.
Ford adds that those who choose not to follow guidelines could be seeing “severe, severe fines” that will be “the highest in the country.”
The province’s health officials say the recent rise in new cases is linked to people not following proper health guidelines at social gatherings.
