The Ontario NDP is getting its ducks in a row ahead of a byelection in the riding of Lambton-Kent-Middlesex.

The party has announced a nomination meeting will be held February 15th, during which Alvinston resident Kathryn Shailer is expected to be acclaimed as the party’s candidate.

The MPP seat in the riding became vacant last October after Monte McNaughton resigned to take a position in the private sector.

Next Thursday’s nomination meeting is set to get underway at 7 o’clock at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 172 in Watford.

While a date for the upcoming by-election has yet to be set, Premier Doug Ford is required to call a by-election within six months of an MPP position becoming vacant, as per the Legislative Assembly Act. McNaughton’s last day in office was October 6, 2023.
