The province’s police watchdog has laid charges against a Sarnia officer.

The Special Investigations Unit has been looking into an incident from October, 2022 when officers responded to a trespassing report at St Paul’s Church on Devine Street. A 35-year-old man was taken into custody, but suffered a serious injury.

The suspect officer is charged with assault causing bodily harm and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia next month.

Further details have not been released as the matter is before the courts.
