Ontario To Require Job Listings To Disclose Expected Salary

The Ontario government is proposing new legislation that would make it mandatory for employers to include expected salary ranges in job postings.

The province said if passed, the legislation will give workers more information to make informed decisions in their career search. Requiring employers to include salaries in job postings is also expected to help close the gender pay gap.

“At a time when many companies are posting record profits, it is only fair they communicate transparently about how they pay workers,” said David Piccini, Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development in a news release.

Additionally, the new legislation will require businesses to disclose if artificial intelligence (AI) is used during their hiring process to help inform decisions.

“As the use of artificial intelligence in Ontario skyrockets, our government will continue to take action to ensure workers aren’t excluded from the job market because of technological biases and that their privacy rights are protected,” said Piccini.

These changes will expand on the province’s Working for Workers Acts and are expected to be introduced in the coming days.
