The summer is half over and back to school is just around the corner.
The United Way is starting to see more donations coming in for its annual Operation Backpack, providing school supplies for families in need.
Coordinator Mary Symons says the need this year is greater than ever.
“We anticipate approximately 1,400 [students] this year. Last year was 1,320. So we are anticipating a level of increase. Sometimes the more difficult items to acquire are the backpacks, math sets, scientific calculators, those sorts of things.”
The deadline for referrals is August 24th. You can visit the United Way website for more information and an online application form.
Anyone looking to donate can drop off school supplies to the United Way office in Chatham.
