An annual community drive will not be helping those in need keep warm this winter.
Operation Cover Up has been running for years in Chatham-Kent, accepting donations of new or gently used coats to help those less fortunate. However, officials with the local chapter of the Salvation Army say due to renovations that will allow the organization to provide better services to the community in the future, there is not space to run the campaign this year.
The Salvation Army is still accepting coats that will then be available at its thrift stores in Chatham and Wallaceburg. Officials say donations will be sold at an affordable price, but if someone cannot afford to pay, staff will work with them so they are still able to get a coat.
Further information can be found by contacting the Salvation Army’s Community Service Offices in Wallaceburg (519-627-8257,) Chatham (519-354-1430,) or Ridgetown and Blenheim (519-809-1173.)
