Dozens of charges have been laid as part of a crackdown on traffic safety.
Members of the Ontario Provincial Police West Region conducted Operation Safe Driver earlier this month, aimed at improving safety for commercial vehicle operators and passenger vehicle drivers alike.
Between July 12 and July 18, officers laid 143 charges across 13 detachment areas, targeting issues such as speeding, improper lane changes, and following too closely.
30 commercial vehicle inspections were conducted with eight cases of defective equipment and 25 charges laid for permits, plates, and driver’s license issues.
Officers with Elgin OPP, who also cover Chatham-Kent, laid one charge each for speeding and careless driving, and, identified four seatbelt infractions.
Authorities remind all drivers it is their responsibility to share the road safety, especially when large commercial vehicles are nearby.
