Provincial police will be cracking down on unsafe commercial drivers this week.
Operation Safe Driver Week runs July 12 through 18, with police increasing enforcement and education efforts for commercial vehicles.
Officers will be targeting improper lane changes, following too closely, speeding, impairment and other reckless and dangerous driver behaviours on OPP-patrolled roads.
Authorities say there were 8826 collisions involving commercial vehicles investigated in OPP jurisdictions last year, 77 of which resulted in a fatality, claiming the lives of 95 people.
Drivers are reminded that compliance with commercial vehicle safety requirements, including inspections, hours of service, secured cargo, and the movement of dangerous goods, helps keep roads safe and forms part of commercial vehicle enforcement.
