With the long weekend in full swing provincial police are reminding everyone that no alcohol can be consumed by anyone on board a boat while it is out on the water.
According to OPP and the Canadian Safe Boating Council, about 40% of all boating-related fatalities are caused by drinking and boating.
They’re launching the “Operation Dry Water” campaign to reduce this number by discouraging boaters and passengers from drinking while out on the water.
Police say sunny weather, wind, waves, and the rocking motion of the boat can greatly increase the effect of alcohol on boaters.
