Police are being kept busy today with multiple collisions on the 401 and throughout Chatham-Kent.

Highway 401 has been shut down in both directions between Tilbury and London following a series of collisions, including a serious crash involving a dozen vehicles.

Meantime, Chatham-Kent EMS is responding to several motor vehicle collisions throughout the municipality.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service is urging everyone to stay off all roadways within the municipality. Several roads have been closed and are impassable.

“Weather conditions have worsened to the point where becoming stranded is highly probable and extremely dangerous,” CK police said in a social media post. “At this time, emergency services will have extreme difficulty reaching stranded motorists. Please take shelter and do not consider travelling home if you are in a place of safety.”

Several roads have also been closed in the municipality including St. Clair at Pioneer Line and Gregory Drive. Kent Bridge Road and Victoria Road are also closed, along with Grand River Line between Winter Line and Bear Line.
