Local authorities want to make sure everyone gets home safety this holiday season.
Chatham-Kent OPP Constable Jay Denorer says with the annual Festive RIDE program underway, officers will be out in full force over the next month and a half.
“Not only are officers on the road dealing with the alcohol part, we also have our Standard Field Sobriety Test-trained officers who have training in marijuana use or any illicit drugs, so they can find out on the roadside if you are under the effects of cannabis,” says Denorer.
According to the OPP, from January 1st to mid-October this year, the OPP laid more than 6,700 impaired driving charges province-wide, 283 of which were impaired by drugs.
