Provincial Police now say a truck convoy heading through Chatham-Kent on its way to Ottawa was a contributing factor in a fatal crash on the 401 last month.
Police said a small car and a pickup truck, which was towing an ATV, collided on the highway west of Bloomfield Road, at around 9:36 a.m. on January 27.
43-year-old Robert Charron died as a result of the crash and two others were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
According to the OPP, traffic at the tail end of the convoy was slowed to below highway speeds on the 401 when the crash occurred. Police said Charron’s vehicle collided with the rear of a vehicle that was participating in the convoy.
The OPP added that an ATV being towed by the pickup truck was not a factor in the collision.
Authorities are still looking to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the crash.
